Q-Grading at CR3-Analytik

What is Q-Grading?

Q-Grading is an internationally recognized system for the objective evaluation of green coffee, developed by the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) in 2004. The goal was to establish a globally uniform and transparent method for quality assessment, enabling producers and buyers to make precise evaluations.

The system is based on the evaluation protocols of the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) and assesses both the processing quality and flavor profile of a coffee. Q-Grading evaluates green coffee using a standardized SCA cupping roast, specifically designed to objectively assess the coffee’s natural aromas. To be classified as "Specialty Coffee," a coffee must score at least 80 out of 100 points—rated on aroma, acidity, body, and aftertaste.

How Can Q-Grading Help?

  • Objective Quality Assessment: Q-Grading ensures a well-founded, independent evaluation of your coffee. This gives you a clear understanding of the quality of the beans you are buying or selling. You can share Q-Grading reports directly with your suppliers or customers to promote trust and transparency in your supply chain.
  • Classification as Specialty Coffee: Specialty Coffee refers to exceptionally high-quality coffee, cultivated under optimal conditions and carefully processed. This differentiating feature grants you access to markets that prioritize quality.
