New Contaminants Regulation - What do you need to know?

Maximum levels for contaminants such as mycotoxins, dioxins, PAHs, metals/elements, plant toxins etc. were previously regulated in Regulation (EC) No. 1881/2006. As of May 25th 2023 this regulation was repealed and a new version of the European Contaminants Regulation came into force (Regulation (EU) No. 2023/915).

The known maximum levels are basically retained in the new version. The general structure of the regulation was revised, and the food categories were reorganised. Limitations for melamine were extended by an additional food category. In addition, the PAH maximum levels for powders of plant origin for the preparation of beverages do not apply to instant/soluble coffee.
